Connect TikTok Pixel and the Events API
Put your TikTok pixel on the store and send purchases from the server: pixel code, access token, test event code and the checks.
What it is#
The TikTok Pixel tells TikTok what visitors do on your store, so your TikTok ads can find buyers. The Events API sends purchases from Jukto's server as well.
What you need#
- A TikTok pixel in TikTok Events Manager. If you have none, create one there.
- The Pixel code (letters and numbers, usually starting with C).
- Optional: an Events API access token, and a Test event code.
Where to find your keys#
- 1
Open your pixel
Open TikTok Events Manager and select your pixel.
- 2
Copy the Pixel code
Copy the Pixel code (it starts with a C). You paste it into the Pixel code field in Jukto.
- 3
Optional: make the server token
For server events open the pixel settings and press Generate access token. Copy it into Events API access token.
- 4
Optional: the test code
Copy the code from the Test events tab into Test event code, and clear it afterwards.
What Jukto does#
- The Pixel code is a setting, and the pixel is placed on every page of your live store.
- The Events API access token is stored encrypted and used only on the server, to send purchases. TikTok gets the phone number in international form and hashed.
- Test connection checks the code format. With a token it sends a test Purchase, and for that it needs a Test event code, so the test is not counted as a real sale.
| Event | When it is sent |
|---|---|
| page | on every page |
| ViewContent | on a product page |
| AddToCart | when a line is added to the cart |
| InitiateCheckout | when the checkout opens with lines |
| PlaceAnOrder | when the order is sent |
| Purchase | on the thank-you page, and again from the server when the order is confirmed; one copy is kept |
See Marketing and ads for how the browser and the server events are paired and what visitor data is shared.
Test and turn on#
- 1
Open the provider page
Go to Tools, open Integrations, choose Marketing & ads, then TikTok Pixel and press Set up (it says Manage once you have started).
- 2
Fill in the fields and save
Paste each value into the field with the same name, then press Save. A secret value is stored encrypted, and afterwards only its last four characters are shown.
- 3
Test the connection
Press Test connection. Jukto asks TikTok Pixel whether the saved values work and shows whether it worked and, if not, what TikTok Pixel answered. The test uses the saved values, so save first.
- 4
Send a test event
With a Test event code and a token saved, press Send test event. A test Purchase appears in TikTok Events Manager under Test events and is not counted as a sale.
- 5
Turn on
Press Turn on. Until then your website does not use it. Turn off stops it again and your saved values stay.
- 6
Look at your live store
Open your live website (not the editor preview) and browse, then check Test events in TikTok Events Manager.
- 7
Clear the test event code
When you are happy, delete the Test event code and press Save.
Common errors#
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| the Pixel code is letters and numbers (10 to 40) | Copy the Pixel code again from TikTok Events Manager. |
| set a test event code first, so the test event is not counted as a real sale | Copy the code from the Test events tab into Test event code, save, and test again. |
| test event refused | TikTok refused the test Purchase. Check the token and the test code. |
| pixel code format OK; without an Events API token the browser pixel is used alone | This is fine: it only says no server events will be sent. Add the token if you want them. |
| TikTok shows nothing | Check that the integration is turned on and that you browse the live store, not the editor preview. |
