Connect Messenger (Facebook Page)
Show your Facebook Page messages in the dashboard inbox and reply with order links: Page ID, Page access token, app secret and the webhook.
What it is#
This connects your Facebook Page to the Chat inbox. People who message your Page on Messenger appear in the dashboard, and you answer there, even with a link to their order.
What you need#
- A Facebook Page that you manage, and a Meta app.
- Three values: Page ID, Page access token and App secret.
- For people outside your own team to be answered, Meta must approve your app (app review) for
pages_messaging. Messaging itself is free from Meta for normal use.
Where to find your keys#
- 1
The Page ID
Open your Facebook Page and copy its Page ID into the Page ID field. If you cannot find it, look in your Page's About section or Meta's help.
- 2
A Page access token
In your Meta app generate a Page access token for that Page with the permissions pages_messaging, pages_manage_metadata and pages_show_list. Copy it into Page access token.
- 3
The app secret
In the app open Settings, then Basic, and copy the App secret into the App secret field.
What Jukto does#
- Your token and app secret are stored encrypted for this website only. The Page ID is a setting.
- The page shows your Callback URL and Verify token, and the fields to subscribe the Page to:
messages,messaging_postbacks,message_deliveries,message_readsandmessage_echoes. - Each incoming message is checked against your app secret, then saved once. Jukto also looks up the sender's name and picture from Meta.
- You reply from the Chat page within 24 hours of the customer's last message. After that Messenger allows no reply until the customer writes again.
- Test connection asks Meta who the token belongs to and says so when it belongs to a different Page than the Page ID you gave.
Test and turn on#
- 1
Open the provider page
Go to Tools, open Integrations, choose Chat, then Messenger and press Set up (it says Manage once you have started).
- 2
Fill in the fields and save
Paste each value into the field with the same name, then press Save. A secret value is stored encrypted, and afterwards only its last four characters are shown.
- 3
Test the connection
Press Test connection. Jukto asks Messenger whether the saved values work and shows whether it worked and, if not, what Messenger answered. The test uses the saved values, so save first.
- 4
Connect Meta to Jukto
In your Meta app add the Messenger product, open Webhooks, and paste the Callback URL and the Verify token from the Jukto page. Subscribe the Page to the fields listed there. The app must be set to Live.
- 5
Turn on
Press Turn on. Until then your website does not use it. Turn off stops it again and your saved values stay.
- 6
Send your Page a message
From a personal account that has a role on the app, message your Page. It should appear in the Chat inbox within moments.
Common errors#
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| The token belongs to another page | The Page access token was made for a different Page. Make a token for the Page whose ID you entered. |
| Meta answered: check the page token | The token is wrong or expired. Make a new Page access token and replace it. |
| Only my team can message, customers get no answer | Until Meta approves pages_messaging for your app, only people with a role on the app can message the Page and be answered. Finish Meta's app review. |
| No message arrives in the inbox | Check that the app is Live, that the Callback URL and Verify token match the page, that the Page is subscribed to the listed fields, and that the App secret is right. |
| More than 24 hours have passed since the customer's last message. | Messenger only allows a reply within 24 hours. You can answer when the customer writes again. |
