Coupons

Give buyers a code that takes a percentage or a fixed amount off, with dates, limits, a minimum order and first-order-only rules.

A coupon is a code that buyers type at checkout to get a discount. Use it for a festival offer, a first-order welcome, a code you give to one influencer. The Coupons tool is on for a new website.

Before you start#

  • The Coupons tool is on in Tools. If it is off, the Coupons page offers to turn it on.
  • Decide the offer: percent or taka, for the whole cart or for chosen products and categories, and for how long.

Create a coupon#

Open Marketing > Coupons and press New coupon.

  1. 1

    Code

Type the Code buyers will enter. It cannot change after the coupon has been used.

  2. 2

    Discount

Choose the Discount type: Percent off (1 to 100) or Fixed amount. For a percent you can set a Maximum discount.

  3. 3

    Rules

Optional limits: Minimum order subtotal, Starts and Ends dates, Total uses allowed, Uses per buyer, and First order only (a mobile number with no earlier order in your store).

  4. 4

    What it covers

Applies to: Whole cart, or Only chosen products or categories. For the second, choose at least one product or category.

  5. 5

    Save and share

Make sure Active is on, save, and tell your buyers the code. Switch on Show on buyers' My coupons page if the coupon should be listed there; other coupons stay secret codes.

A coupon works when it is active, inside its dates, under its limits, over the minimum order, and for the right cart or items. It does not work on a landing page, which has no coupon field.

States and history#

StateMeaning
ActiveBuyers can use it
PausedSwitched off for now; switch Active on to use it again
ArchivedStopped for good. Its history stays. Buyers can no longer use it

Each coupon shows "Used N times" and its minimum order. Edit changes the rules, Archive stops it.

See how coupons do#

The Marketing page shows, for 7, 30 or 90 days: orders with an offer, their share of all orders, the discount given and sales with an offer. The Coupons card adds active coupons, those ending within 7 days, uses, and your most used codes. Demo, cancelled and deleted orders are not counted.

Common problems#

The buyer says the code does not work

Check the dates, the minimum order, the total and per-buyer limits, and whether it applies to the items in the cart. "First order only" works only for a mobile number with no earlier order in your store.

A buyer got a different discount than the coupon

If an automatic discount is bigger, the buyer gets that one instead. They never get both.

I cannot change the code

A code cannot change after it has been used. Archive the coupon and make a new one.
