Import products from a file
Bring many products in from a CSV file with an import template, check the file first, fix the problems, and only then save.
If you have your products in Excel or Google Sheets, you do not have to type them again. Save the sheet as a CSV file and import it. Jukto checks the whole file first and shows every problem, and nothing is saved until you press Import.
Before you start#
- A CSV file. In Excel or Google Sheets choose Save as / Download as CSV.
- Your product pictures already in your media library (Images). The file refers to them by file name.
- Your categories already created, if the file uses them.
- Start with a few rows, to see how your columns map.
Make an import template once#
Open Import & export (Settings > Import & export), and under Import > Products press Create an import template. A template says where your file comes from and how its columns are read.
| Where is the file from | What to know |
|---|---|
| Jukto CSV (our sample file or a Jukto export) | The file uses the Jukto column names. Download the sample file on the import page |
| Shopify products export (products_export.csv) | Picture links are not downloaded; products come in as drafts |
| WooCommerce products export (CSV) | Picture links are not downloaded; products come in as drafts |
| My own file (I choose which column is which) | Choose a sample of your file. Only its first row (the column names) is read, in your browser. Map each of your columns to a Jukto column or Ignore this column |
Also choose When a record already exists: Skip it (default), Show it as a problem, or Update it (by SKU). You can still choose differently when you import. You can keep up to 30 templates of one kind.
Import step by step#
- 1
Open Import products
Open Import products (or press Import on a template).
- 2
Choose the template and the file
Pick the Import template, press Download sample file if you need the layout, and choose your CSV file. For your own file, Preview columns shows the Column mapping.
- 3
Check the file
Press Check file. It reads every row and lists problems without saving anything: row, column and what is wrong. The message "File checked. Nothing has been saved yet." means the file is clean.
- 4
Fix the problems
Press Download problems (CSV), fix those rows in your sheet and upload again. Repeat until the check is clean.
- 5
Import
Press Import. If it is interrupted, the rows already imported are kept: press Import again to continue.

How the file is read#
- One row per variant. Rows with the same
product_handlemake one product. - Images: type the file name of a picture that is already in your media library. Web links are not accepted.
- Categories must already exist.
- Products from a Shopify or WooCommerce file come in as drafts, and categories and tags are not copied.
- Recent imports at the bottom lists earlier imports.
- Customers can be imported the same way from Customers.
Common problems#
Every row says the category does not exist
Create the categories first (Products > Categories), or leave the category column empty.
A picture is not found
Upload the picture to your media library first and write exactly its file name in the file.
The numbers look wrong in Excel
Save as "CSV UTF-8" so Bangla names and symbols stay correct.
I imported twice and got duplicates
Choose Update it (by SKU) or Skip it in the template, so products that already exist are not added again.
